MITT Russia at a glance:
MITT-Travel & Tourism fair , the largest and one of the most important events for the travel industry in Russia. The show is intended to globally form a state image of Russia as a country favorable for tourism, to build up a sales promotion system for Russian travel products in the most promising geographic directions and all over the world. MITT serves as a platform for travel and tourism specialists from around the globe to network with others in the tourism industry, as well as showcasing their tourism packages to the general public.

Destinations and process orientation:
MITT is Russia’s Number 1 travel exhibition. With over 3,000 participating companies and 185 destinations, it is a key meeting place for the industry and an opportunity to catch up with colleagues and clients. More than this, it enables participants to increase awareness of their destination, gain a real feel for the Russian travel market and gauge demand for their services.
MITT welcomes both trade and consumer visitors, with specific ‘trade only’ days. In 2010, the event recorded an attendance of 79,850, 74% of whom were travel trade professionals. As the demand for travel services in Russia grows and the spending power of Russian travellers becomes more well known, the popularity of the event has continued to grow .

Sri Lanka takes part at the Austrian "Ferien"Tourism & Travel Fair, Vienna - 13-16 Janaury 2011
The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) together with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Austria, for the second time, took part at the “Ferien Messe-2011”, the International Fair for Holidays, Travel and Leisure in Vienna from 13-16 January 2011.
“Ferien Messe” which is one of the biggest travel and tourism fairs held annually in Central Europe attracts over 150,000 visitors and 800-850 tourism and travel companies from over 70 countries. During the four day fair this year, Sri Lanka stand drew over 15, 000 visitors from both public and the travel trade.
Sri Lanka has now become a favorite travel destination among travellers from Austria and the neighboring countries, following the restoration of peace and normalcy in the country and relaxation of travel advisories by respective countries. Tourist arrivals from Austria and from the region have shown marked increase and the numbers have almost doubled in the last year.
The Central Europe poses strong growth potential and tremendous opportunities for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. A number of well known travel companies such as TUI, JUMBO, RUEFA, GULLIVER, TOP TRAVEL, L’ TUR and supermarket chains such as BILLA, HOFER, LIDL, PENNY in Austria are currently promoting Sri Lanka as one of their main destinations for the forthcoming summer and winter vacation travel.
Ambassador M M Jaffeer declared open the Sri Lanka Stand at the fair with the participation of representatives of Sri Lankan Travel companies. The stand showcased the country as a tourist destination under the new tag line of Sri Lanka Tourism “Visit Sri Lanka 2011”, in areas such as culture, nature, ayurveda/wellness, sports & recreation and eco-tourism at the travel fair.
